Net Worth vs. Self Worth: A Deeper Measure of Success

Yesterday, I had the privilege of sitting down with Mark Charlton—a man I deeply admire not only for his success as a 360clean franchise owner but more importantly for his faith, his wisdom, and how he lives in alignment with his values.

During our conversation, one powerful phrase rose to the surface:

Net Worth vs. Self Worth

It’s a tension every entrepreneur faces, and one worth pausing to reflect on.

In a world where success is so often measured in commas and balance sheets, Mark reminded me that our value doesn’t come from what we accumulate—but who we become. It’s easy to chase growth, revenue, and recognition, but if our identity becomes entangled in the numbers, we risk losing sight of what truly matters: our purpose, our impact, and the kind of life we’re building along the way.

Net worth is a metric. Self worth is a mindset. One changes with the market; the other is grounded in something deeper.

As business owners, we have to ask: Are we building a business to look impressive, or to live intentionally?
Are we hustling for validation, or operating from conviction?

Mark and Becky Charlton have been part of the 360clean family for over five years. His business is thriving, but more importantly—his purpose is clear. He’s built something that reflects his values, serves others, and allows him the freedom to live by design, not default.

I want to challenge you, just as this conversation challenged me: When you strip away the titles, the metrics, the numbers on paper—who are you? And is that person reflected in the business you’re building?

When you align your self worth with your purpose, something powerful happens: your business becomes a vehicle for impact, not just income. And when that shift happens, success is no longer just about how much you’ve gained—but how well you’ve lived.

Are you defining your worth by your net—or by your purpose?
