There’s a moment every entrepreneur faces – when the pressure of the bottom line tries to drown out the purpose that got them into business in the first place.
In a recent conversation, we explored this tension head-on.
“You’re not able to live out the business’s purpose if it doesn’t exist, right?”
That statement hit hard. Because while money keeps the lights on, it shouldn’t be the light you’re chasing.
When you’re running an independent business, leading other business owners or overseeing the development of dozens of entrepreneurs, like I do now, you feel the weight of profitability. The scoreboard is real. But if you stare at it too long, you lose sight of the game you came to play.
So how do you marry purpose with profit?
You stop letting the numbers define you. Yes, growth matters. Yes, we want to thrive financially. But profits are fuel, not the destination!
As your business grows and the margins widen, the temptation increases to let that become your identity. But that’s when staying rooted in your purpose matters most.
When you lead from your purpose:
✔ You attract the right people.
✔ You build something that outlasts you.
✔ And ironically…the profits tend to follow anyway.
Your purpose doesn’t compete with your profits. It powers them.
